In late 2021, John Deere announced an equity investment in ClearFlame Engine Technologies, “a growing start-up dedicated to the development of clean engine technology” based out of Geneva, Ill.
ClearFlame CEO BJ Johnson described the company’s technology as making engines “fuel agnostic,” changing only 10-15% of the parts used but “decoupling the performance and economic benefits of the diesel engine design from the challenges of diesel fuel in terms of cost and emissions.”
