According to a report from ETAuto, Mahindra's sold 4,716 tractors in April, down 83% from the 27,495 sold in April 2019. Exports for the month of April were at 56, down 95% from 1,057 units exported in the same month last year.
Hemant Sikka, president, farm equipment sector, said, "The extension of the national lockdown impacted the business, with dealers partially open for just a few days. The rate of improvement will depend on how quickly the on-ground sales operations ... are normalized, following the relaxation of the lockdown."
India went into full lockdown on March 24, which included closing all farm equipment dealerships. Farm equipment dealers in India were permitted to re-open their businesses through a new set of lockdown rules issued by the Indian government that came into effect April 20, according to a report from BBC.
