A July 21 report from the Ottumwa Courier said John Deere will move production of mower conditioners from its plant in Ottumwa, Iowa, to its factory in Monterrey, Mexico, by the end of 2023. The Ottumwa factory also makes round balers, self-propelled windrowers and square balers.
Dan Bernick, Deere's public relations manager, told the Ottumwa Courier that the move consolidates the company's mowing implements to a single location with "existing production capacity and complimentary manufacturing competencies."
Deere stated it doesn't know how many employees will be impacted but would form a committee that will develop plans to "revitalize" the facility for the future, which will address "leveraging new processes and technologies to further improve quality and productivity."
Deere announced on June 2 it would also move tractor cab production from its Waterloo, Iowa, Tractor and Cab Assembly Operations (TCAO) to Ramos Component Works in Mexico.
