Cummins has scored a significant win in the agricultural sector by securing a contract to supply B-Series engines for a new range of Claas combines understood to be heading to North America.
In the year that Claas completed the transition from harvesting specialist to full line supplier in North America, the German group recorded sales revenues at a level similar to the prior 12 months but saw profitability plunge almost 40% in a challenging market.
January 2019 ag equipment sales were a tale of two countries. “U.S. growth of 3% was offset by an 11% decline in Canada,” Mircea (Mig) Dobre, RW Baird, said in his summary of ag equipment sales reported by the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers.
Increased sales of new high horsepower tractors in North America is helping AGCO’s Fendt unit toward its goal of selling 20,000 units globally a year by 2020. This year, sales in North America are expected to top 800 units for the first time as farmers take to the Fendt 1000 Vario range and its Challenger-branded counterpart.
