In 2011, the Big Dealer Report showed 22 Canadian dealers with 5 or more locations. These 22 dealer groups accounted for a total of 206 farm equipment dealerships in Canada with 234 total locations.
Shortly after Ag Equipment Intelligence’s “2015 Big Dealer Report” was sent to the printer, two more big dealers were reported and three more mergers were announced.
According the 2015 edition of the "Big Dealer Report" compiled by Ag Equipment Intelligence and Currie Management Consultants, the total number of dealer groups that own 5 or more stores increased to 188, up from 181 in the previous year.
The ink was barely dry on Ag Equipment Intelligence’s “2013 Big Dealer” report when a spate of new acquisitions were announced that underlined our analysis that even medium-size dealers with multiple locations are targets for the biggest farm equipment dealer groups.
If you were to only look at the raw numbers, you might think that the pace of farm equipment dealership consolidation may have slowed its relentless pace during the past year. But nothing could be further from the fact.
The first list of farm equipment “Big Dealers” that appeared in the April 2009 Ag Equipment Intelligence showed 151 dealer groups that operated 5 or more stores.
