For the first quarter of 2018, AGCO raked in $2 billion in net sales, a 23.3% increase compared to the same 3 month period the year prior. And with the stage set, the company expects sales to reach around $9.3 billion by the year’s end.
North American large ag equipment unit sales were mixed in April, with overall unit sales up 2% year-over-year. Both U.S. and Canada had growth in combine sales (U.S. +59%), but that was partially offset by declines in 4WD tractors (Canada –28%) and row-crop tractors, according to the latest numbers released by the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers.
CNH Industrial, parent company of Case IH and New Holland Agriculture, reported a 15% net sales increase of agricultural equipment in the first quarter of 2018 compared with the first quarter of last year.
Cervus Equipment Corp., one of John Deere’s largest equipment dealers, reported improved financial results in the first quarter of the year compared to the same time period in 2017.
Results of Kansas City Federal Bank’s most recent survey of farm lenders shows that interest rates on farm loans have continued to inch higher. At the same time, the first quarter 2018 Agricultural Finance Monitor published by the St. Louis Fed indicates that farm income slipped for the 17th consecutive quarter.

Sonalika International Tractors Limited (ITL), one of India’s leading tractor manufacturers, recorded an increase of 22% in tractors sales to 100,000 units in fiscal year 2018. This compares to 81,531 units registered in the previous year, which was an increase of 19.6%.
Titan Machinery, one of North America’s largest equipment dealership groups, posted its first strong earnings report since sales of farm machinery turned down in 2014. Fourth quarter revenue topped $339 million, up 7% year-over-year.
While there are fewer “big” North American farm equipment dealer-principals or ownership groups at this point in 2018 than there were a year ago — 189 vs. 193 — this in no way signals a slowdown in dealer consolidation trends of the past decade.
