All segments of ag equipment, small to large, grew in September 2020 continuing a positive trend for the year according to the latest data from the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).
U.S. large ag retail sales were down 3.7% year-over-year in August, while Canadian sales were up 8.3%, according to the latest numbers from the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers.
In line with June, compact tractors, 40-99 horsepower tractors, 100+ horsepower tractors and combine sales exceeded expectations in July, while 4WD tractors was the only category to not beat expectations.
Through the first 6 months of the year, overall sales of farm tractors and combines have held up fairly well in the U.S. but not so much for Canadian equipment dealers.
According to the latest ag equipment sales numbers from the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), U.S. large ag sales increased 6.3% year-over-year in June (May: –14.5%). Combined U.S./Canada large ag sales increased 4.6% (May: –20.1%).
North American large ag equipment sales declined 20.1% in May, following April’s 11.1%drop. Mid-range and compact tractor sales were robust for the month, up 9.3% and
18.1%, respectively.
All equipment retail sales exceeded monthly expectations or were nearly flat in the month of April. Higher horsepower tractors were the only exception, being 9.5% below the monthly forecast.
According to a Jan. 23, 2020 report in the Zimbabwe publication, The Herald, John Deere is expected to begin shipping the first part of a $50 million order for farm machinery within in the next 3 months.
